HIGH PERFORMANCE POLYMERS

Description

High-performance polymers are plastic materials with exceptional properties, such as resistance to high temperatures, aggressive chemicals and high mechanical stress.

Properties and features

They retain their mechanical and physical properties at temperatures often in excess of 200°C. Some polymers are self-extinguishing or offer high resistance to combustion.

They resist corrosive environments, solvents and aggressive chemicals without degrading. Some can withstand extreme chemical conditions without damage.

They withstand high mechanical loads without breaking.

They offer a long service life, even under repeated or continuous mechanical stress.

Low thermal expansion: They maintain their dimensions with temperature variations, minimising deformation. Resistance to creep: they undergo little permanent deformation under long-term load.

Some polymers reduce wear caused by friction, which is useful in sliding or rolling applications. They are resistant to degradation caused by friction or repeated contact with other surfaces.

They have excellent insulating properties, essential for electronic and electrical applications. And some offer low permeability.

Some high-performance polymers can be highly transparent, useful for optical or aesthetic applications.

Low density: They offer a high strength-to-weight ratio, which is crucial in aerospace and automotive applications to reduce component weight while maintaining high performance.
