Description
Isopropyl alcohol (IPA), or isopropanol (2-propanol), is a clear, colourless, volatile liquid with a slight odour, with the formula CH₃CHOHCH₃. It is a flammable secondary alcohol that is widely used due to its low toxicity. Isopropyl alcohol is miscible with water, alcohols and most organic solvents, making it effective at dissolving substances such as cellulose, resins, oils and gums. It is commonly found in antiseptics, disinfectants and detergents, and is a key disinfectant in hospitals, cleanrooms and the manufacture of medical devices.
