Description
Phthalic Anhydride is a white, crystalline solid with a slightly pungent odor. It is an important industrial chemical mainly used in the production of plasticizers, resins, and coatings. Derived from o-xylene or naphthalene oxidation, this compound is a key intermediate in the synthesis of phthalate esters, polyester resins, alkyd resins, and dyes. Due to its reactive anhydride group, Phthalic Anhydride readily forms polyesters and other derivatives, making it widely used in polymer production, paints, varnishes, and specialty chemicals. It also plays a role in the manufacture of agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and flame retardants.
